A Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) test can help your physician and speech pathologist determine issues with the way you swallow. If you have a swallow test scheduled with us at TwinCity Medical Mobile, there are several things you should do before, during, and after the test for the best possible experience.
- Before- Confirm the date and time of your swallow test, and if you want someone with you at the test, let them know about the appointment details. Let your medical provider know about any medications you are allergic to and bring your prescription bottles with you to your preparatory appointment.
- During- The morning of your swallow test, refrain from eating or drinking anything. If your stomach and esophagus are not empty, it may be difficult to see the pictures clearly. You should also ask your healthcare provider about taking medications on the day of the procedure. Bring a list of any medications you take with you when you come to your swallow test.
- After- At the conclusion of your swallow test, you should head back to your room and lie down. Make sure you pay attention to if you experience any issues or discomfort. Do not get out of bed until you feel fully energized and back to normal.
We want to make your swallow test a good experience here at TwinCity Medical Mobile. If you have any questions about how to prepare for your appointment or what to expect, we would be happy to give you more information.
