Swallowing disorders can occur at one of three phases of the swallowing process, which include the oral phase, pharyngeal phase, and esophageal phase. If you struggle with a swallowing disorder and have trouble eating and drinking, you are probably anxious to pinpoint the source of your swallowing difficulties and receive needed treatment to eat and drink again normally.
Depending on your circumstances, your doctor will likely order a swallow test to determine at which phase of the swallowing process the difficulties begin and how severe your swallowing disorder is. After the swallow test has been recommended, at TwinCity Medical Mobile, we can travel directly to your residence and perform the test aboard our state-of-the-art medical van. As a result, you will not have to spend hours at an outpatient facility or hospital undergoing the testing process.
Before your swallow test, we will have you consume a solution that contains barium. Once you have done this, we will use an x-ray to track the path of the barium solution and use DVR to record the results. A family member or friend is welcome to come with you to provide support, and we will make sure you receive compassionate care during the duration of the test. Once the testing process is over, you, your medical provider, and anyone else you request will receive a copy of the test.
