When you swallow, food travels through your mouth and into a part of your throat known as the pharynx. After it moves through the pharynx, it travels through the esophagus and then into the stomach. All of these actions are made possible by a series of muscles in these key areas. However, if you have dysphagia, these muscles fail to work like they should, and you may have problems swallowing normally when you eat or drink.
If you exhibit the signs and symptoms of dysphagia, aspiration is an ever-present risk, which is why the swallowing disorder needs to be evaluated, confirmed, and treated as soon as possible. Here at TwinCity Medical Mobile, we provide swallow evaluation services aboard our state-of-the-art mobile medical van, and we can provide the patients at your care facility with compassionate, focused care.
After a swallow evaluation is ordered by a patient’s treating physician, the patient comes onto our mobile medical van for testing. Each test is administered by our owner and founder, who is a highly experienced Physician Assistant, and our Speech Language Therapist. Once the swallow evaluation is complete, the results are recorded onto DVR and provided to the patient and all other applicable parties.
